\"Lisbon<\/a><\/p>\n

The trade union organisations, part of the European Capitals Trade Union Network (ECTUN), met in Lisbon (Sesimbra) 29 to 31 March 2016 for the XV conference.<\/p>\n

At the conference, which was supported by the ETUI, 50 delegates representing 22 trade union organisations from 15 European Capital Cities, met to discuss the topic \u201cEuropean Capital Cities \u2013 From Social Dumping to Quality Jobs\u201d. \u00a0They were: CCOO Madrid; CGIL Roma e Lazio; CISL Roma; DGB Berlin; EKA Athens; FO Paris; GLATUC London; GWU Valetta; LIZDA Riga; LO-Copenhagen; LO-Oslo; MTUF Moscow; PODKREPA Sofia; SAK Helsinki; SERTUC London; Solidarumas Vilnius; UGT Madrid; UIL Roma; URI CFDT Paris; URIF CGT Paris; URIF-UNSA Paris; USL\/CGTP-IN Lisboa; UGTT-Tunis (observer).\"Lisbon<\/p>\n

The conference welcomed the presence of Luca Visentini (ETUC General Secretary).<\/p>\n

The session \u201cSocial Dumping in EU \u2013 concept, diversity and dimensions\u201d had a presentation from Jan Cremers, the University of Amsterdam<\/a>, and Ana Cardoso from CESIS<\/a>. Jan Willem Goudriaan (EPSU, the European Public Services Union) was invited to present the Session \u201cThe importance of public services for job quality and to reduce the social dumping\u201d. The closing session was led by Ulisses Garrido (ETUI Education Director) and the Arm\u00e9nio Carlos (CGTP-IN General Secretary) as well as Luca Visentini (ETUC General Secretary).<\/p>\n

The discussion concluded that there are different dimensions on social dumping. It is linked to globalisation and multinational companies and supply chains. It has also an internal dimension: unfair competition between companies and workforces in our own countries and regions, with workers on different contracts undermining each other, including within public services.<\/p>\n

The role that the Capital Cities\u2019 trade unions and ECTUN can play is important and should be improved. Concrete propositions on this were made by the different trade unions participating and will be progressed at the 2017 conference.<\/p>\n
